This weeks recipe, chosen by Raeann of
Basically, Baby Boots, is Lemon Walnut Sour Cream Pound Cake. I had this one marked as a possible choice for my pick in March, but wasn't at all unhappy to make it ahead of time. :) While the hubby isn't a big fan of lemon, I love it in all kinds of baked goods...muffins, breads, pies, cookies. It always lends such a crisp, fresh flavor to everything. I don't normally bake anything lemon flavored because he won't eat it, but since it was for the group... :}
I have a pretty yellow bundt cake pan that is usually too small for most bundt cake recipes. I decided to bake this pound cake in it instead of using a loaf pan.
In no time I had the batter mixed up and in the oven baking. It's pretty basic; flour, butter, sugar, lemon zest and juice, along with a few other simple ingredients.
I baked mine in the bundt pan for the full hour and 15 minutes. It smelled wonderful as it was baking, and I couldn't wait to try it.
I skipped the glaze listed in the recipe and instead made a simple powdered sugar and lemon juice glaze that I drizzled over the top after the pound cake cooled.
I found this cake to be fabulous! Moist, with a nice crust on the outside. The lemon flavor was strong, but not too strong, and delicious. The walnuts added just the right amount of texture to the crumb of the cake. I would definitely make this one again. I noticed one of the SMS bakers used orange and pecans. That also sounds delicious and I may have to try that combination in the future. If you would like to see what the rest of the gang thought, head over to
SMS and check it out!
Hi, Susan: The texture on your cake looks heavenly. I love the idea of this as a bundt.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good recipe!
Susan, I love your bundt cake shape; and the icing - yummmmmy! I think your idea of an icing is better then the glaze. The lemony pound cake looks more like a dessert then a bread with yours'. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteSusan, your cake looks super. And the presentation is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love any thing lemon. Your cake looks so moist and delicious.

ReplyDeleteSusan, the bundt pan looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour bundt pan is gorgeous! The cake came out perfect and I'm so glad you liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteYours looks a lot like mine! I made a bundt, too. I really like your pan and your cake looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour bundt does make the cake more interesting and attractive but it is you who makes the cake taste good. I want to try this. I must get my book out and find some new recipes. I love Melissa's baking.
ReplyDeleteThat bundt pan is SO pretty! How perfect to make a lemon dessert in a yellow bundt pan. I'm in the same camp as your hubs, I don't like lemon desserts. I made this, but I have no idea how it tasted. I hope it's as moist a tasty as yours looks like it was!
ReplyDeleteYour cake and photos are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous, Susan! I love that special bundt cake, and especially how you took one for the group! I'm so glad to be part of SMS now so I can taste all these great things you've been making on Sundays.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cake, great excuse to use that pretty pan! It's a shame your husband doesn't like lemons, they're so delicious in desserts.
ReplyDeleteLove the pan! I made it in a bundt pan too - looks so pretty. The lemon icing sugar glaze looks especially pretty!
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteWow! Your bundt (pound) cake looks amazing! I'm so happy that you decided to bake with me this week, even if the hubby doesn't like lemons. He's missed out on this one! I'm trying to get settled in a new place with half the kitchen space, BUT I plan on re-joining the SMS bakers to finish off the book this year. P.S. The Bahamas was great. If you had a choice to spend the holidays, where would you go?
Raeann
